Bull from the Sea
by Anneke Swinehart    author info

You rose up
outta nowhere really right outta
the center of my forehead
No,
the sea, a warm one, perfect and blue
and I knew
I wanted
To cross over
a line a boundary
The shore
with you under me
both of us wet salty
tired
up to our waist in trouble
with a goddess you're married to
that I barely know
In her presence I underwhelm myself
but perhaps
you can see through me
my finery
pulsing beneath my skin glowing from the
Inside
I am
Neptune's daughter
a treasure, precious
the most beautiful and fierce
thing
that ever washed up on a beach.
I am
tempted by bulls
My heart racing through the streets
risking blood I cannot spare but
I am
drawn to the soft skin of your muzzle
your rough tongue.
Undeterred by
awkward disguises
I am
supplicating the heavens, your wife
begging for absolution
for sins I'll never commit
guilty rides you
won't take me on
a man a god a father inside
that hide
I'd make boots from so I could
always feel you
inside my arch
kissing my calf
under me
Sweaty.
