Oil-spill by Nicole Gifford author info She wakes up toxic. In the shower, she attempts to cleanse From the outside, in. Clocks are paused in a hot pounding stream Of what is this, water? But the stains are on the inside In a struggle between Drunking and sobering. She watches the aroma of Cigarettes wash from her hair Like an oil-spill, and thinks Of ducks paralyzed in the goop. She thinks she can rinse the residue From her mouth, And takes the water stream into it. It fills her like a kiss. She closes her eyes and accepts it But dribbles it out when she remembers She is not deserving. |
