snowman
   by Alexis O'Hara    author info

he is as pure as the driven snow
driven-upon snow driver over snow
ie: slush

no lily white xmass vision no
slush
no hush puppy this slush puppy
dyeing my tongue blue
prying my head open
who woulda thought sugar frozen knives could slice your brain in two?

no
slush you'll never find in a waxed cup
not festive and gleeful in holiday cheer
but brown frozen like an exploded beer
regretably forgotten in the ice box

my snowman slush
you'll never find him impersonating parson brown
in the valley - built by lovers miss and beau
you'll never find him coming to life reanimator
to set their hearts aglow no

slush not mush
this is no yuletide made for tv special
in which a widow finds love at last
i am no olivia newton john
his jimmy stewart days are long past

we will not be rolling snowballs today stacking them with glee
winter sports are not exactly my forte you see
fools on toboggan sailing into trees
fools on skidoos dislocating their knees
fools on the chairlift whizzing above our heads
fools on the ice rink extremities all red... then white then blue
me and my snowman we appreciate the view
from the lodge we are lodged elemental in desire
melting ice caps with our conversation
deforesting in fire

i'm all for four seasons
floridians be damned
you just mind your peas and
don't bother asking what my man
has to do with snow in the first place

in any case, i'm an urbanaut
and i ought to leave it at that
