WATCH WHAT YOU WISH FOR - PART ONE by Alexis O'Hara author info I had materialized him at my stoop as sure as if i'd carved his figure out of wax stolen hairs from his brush and clippings from 'neath the sink i welcomed him in Hi, how you doing? I took his hat and placed in on the table under the picture of amadou, the rising sun pausing to wink three times and lower my eyes in reverence i hung his coat next to grandmaman's fur offered him a seat why don't you sit in the easy chair it's the most comfortable a dirty pair of my underwear hidden under the faded blue cushion i'll fix us something warm to drink I put cayenne in the tea maple syrup and a tear which i'd saved in a jar marked: forever i rubbed amber behind my ears and leaned in close to place his cup next to the virgin of guadalupe candle on the coffin the coffin table where wheatgrass and jade spring from pots marked with red x's and green o's I made up a game for us to play which involved him signing his name at the bottom of several blank sheets of paper i got him to say my name three times quickly in a row Alexis O'Hara, Alexis O'Hara, Alexis O'Hara dosen't that sound funny? he looked confused so i slapped some Xavier Cugat on the turntable and pulled him up to dance we turned round and round in circles look at the floor, isn't that trippy? and when he wasn't looking i mouthed the words "you belong to me" i hadn't forgotten anything this time it would work this time it would work this time it would work |
